What is the eMPF Platform?

The eMPF Platform in Hong Kong is a centralized digital system that standardizes MPF scheme administration across all trustees. Operated by the eMPF Platform Company Limited—a subsidiary of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA)—it replaces the previous 12 separate trustee portals with a single, unified interface. This major eMPF Hong Kong initiative manages 4.75 million scheme members and HK$1.5 trillion in assets under management, with projected cumulative savings of HK$30–40 billion over the next decade through significantly reduced administration costs.

How the eMPF Platform Works

The eMPF Platform acts as a central hub connecting MPF employers, employees, and trustees. When you submit contribution data, the platform automatically routes it to the correct trustees — you no longer need to log into multiple systems for employees enrolled in different MPF schemes.

Access the platform conveniently via:

  • The official eMPF website — full-featured browser access for desktop and laptop users
  • Mobile App — available on iOS and Android for on-the-go management

What MPF Employers Can Do on the Platform

The eMPF Platform brings all essential employer functions into one user-friendly interface:

  • Submit Contribution Remittance Statements: Enter employee income details — the system automatically calculates mandatory contributions based on current caps (HK$1,500/month maximum)
  • Enrol New Employees: Complete eMPF registration for new hires within the statutory 60-day enrolment period
  • Process Terminations: Notify trustees when employees leave and handle final contribution calculations
  • Make Payments: Pay contributions 24/7 via FPS, direct debit, e-cheque, or online banking
  • View Contribution History: Access complete payment records and download statements for all employees
  • Manage User Access: Assign different permission levels to HR staff, accountants, and administrators

Automated Calculation Features

One of the most valuable features for MPF employers is the built-in automated contribution calculation. Simply input an employee’s relevant income, and the system applies the correct 5% mandatory contribution rate, caps both employer and employee portions at HK$1,500 each, and handles pro-rata calculations for mid-month joiners or leavers. This is especially useful for businesses with variable pay structures (commissions, bonuses, overtime), greatly reducing manual errors that previously led to IRD inquiries.

Payment Channels Available

The eMPF Platform supports multiple secure digital payment methods to make life easier for MPF employers:

Payment Method
Details
FPS (Faster Payment System)
Instant transfer with real-time confirmation; available 24/7
Direct Debit
Schedule automatic monthly deductions from your company bank account
e-Cheque
Digital cheque issued through internet banking; no physical handling
Online Bill Payment
Pay via your bank's internet banking portal using eMPF as biller

These digital options eliminate the risks of paper cheques — lost mail, postal delays, and late payment surcharges that were common under the old fragmented system.

Key Benefits for MPF Employers

  • Single Login for All Schemes: Manage contributions for employees across Manulife, HSBC, AIA, and other trustees from one dashboard
  • Compliance Reminders: Automated alerts before the 10th-of-the-month deadline help you avoid the 5% surcharge under the MPF Schemes Ordinance
  • Reduced Administration Fees: MPFA projects an average 30% reduction in scheme administration fees within two years
  • Significant Time Savings: No more switching between multiple trustee portals, formats, and login credentials

Security Note

  • Following a fraud incident in December 2025 involving forged identity documents, the MPFA strongly recommends using iAM Smart for all eMPF registrations. MPF employers should register their company as soon as possible to secure their identity on the platform. Contact the eMPF hotline (183 2622) immediately if you notice any unusual account activity.

eMPF Onboarding Schedule

Trustees are transitioning in phases according to the official eMPF onboarding schedule. MPF employers must prepare in advance of their scheme’s transition date to meet their compliance obligations.

Trustee / Scheme
Onboarding Date
Fidelity Retirement Master Trust
30 December 2025
Haitong MPF Retirement Fund
30 December 2025
Hang Seng MPF SuperTrust Plus
29 January 2026
HSBC MPF SuperTrust Plus
29 January 2026

Important: There is a 10–14 day service suspension before each onboarding date (e.g., 16–28 January 2026 for HSBC/Hang Seng). Submit all instructions to your current trustee before the blackout period begins — instructions received during suspension will be rejected. After onboarding, old trustee portals will no longer function. More details are available in the LegCo Q&A – December 2024.

Employer Transition Checklist

Before Your Scheme Onboards

  1. Appoint a Company Authorized Person who will hold the master login credentials
  2. Clean your data: Ensure employee names match HKIDs exactly (mismatches cause contribution rejections)
  3. Prepare documents: Business Registration Certificate and eMPF Activation Code from your trustee
  4. Notify staff: MPF balances may temporarily not display during the migration period

After Onboarding

  1. Register on eMPF using iAM Smart for secure verification
  2. Re-establish Direct Debit instructions (old DDA setups with trustees do NOT transfer automatically)
  3. Verify all migrated data and re-enter any voluntary contributions (these do not migrate automatically)

Frequently Asked Questions

Is eMPF registration mandatory?

Yes. Once your trustee onboards to the eMPF Platform, the old portals shut down permanently. MPF employers must register on eMPF to continue meeting their legal obligations under the MPF Schemes Ordinance (Cap. 485).

Do employee accounts transfer automatically?

Core data and balances migrate automatically. However, you should verify everything post-migration and re-setup Direct Debit instructions, as these do not carry over automatically.

What if I experience technical issues?

Submit contributions 3–5 days before the 10th of the month to allow buffer time. Always keep screenshots of all confirmations. The MPFA has stated it will exercise discretion on surcharges in cases of proven platform faults.

Can I still use paper cheques?

Yes, but processing is much slower. Send to: eMPF Platform Company, P.O. Box 98929, Tsim Sha Tsui. Digital payment methods are strongly recommended to avoid late payment risks.
